Categories

Introduction

AutoGallery Pro supports unlimited categories for your galleries. Each category can have it's own settings to determine what type of galleries will be accepted into that category. Your categories are managed through the control panel and can be added, updated, or deleted at any time. To access the category management interface click on the Manage Categories link (Figure 1) in the Setup section of the control panel menu.

The first time you visit the category management interface, you will only have the option to add categories. Once you have added some categories you will have further options to update and delete them. The process of adding, updating and deleting galleries is described below.

Adding

To add a category, enter it's name (as you want it to appear) in the Category Names field. You can specify multiple categories by putting each one on a line by itself. Next you will need to select what type of category this will be. AutoGallery Pro offers three different gallery types: Once you have selected the type of category, you will need to setup the allowed file extensions. When AutoGallery Pro scans a gallery it will look for thumbnails that are linked to files with these file extensions. The file extension list should contain a comma separated list of file extensions. Do not include the period in front of the file extension.

You now need to setup the minimum and maximum amount values. The minimum amount is the least number of thumbnails that a gallery can have in this category. The maximum amount is the most number of thumbnails that a gallery can have in this category. AutoGallery Pro will reject any galleries that do not fall somewhere in between the minimum and maximum values, inclusive.

AutoGallery Pro allows you to set the minimum allowed filesize for the full size pictures or movies on a gallery. If there are any full size pictures or movies on a gallery that do not meet the minimum, it will be rejected. Enter filesizes in bytes, and do not use any commas, spaces, or periods in the filesize fields.

Once you have all of the fields filled in, press the Add Categories button (or Add/Update Categories button) to save your categories. You will be returned to the category management page where you can make any further changes that you want.

Updating

Categories can be edited one at a time or several at a time. To edit a single category, select it from the drop down list of categories at the top of the page. AutoGallery Pro will load all of that category's options in the form fields, and you can then make the changes you want. Once you have made the changes you want, press the Add/Update Categories button. You will be returned to the category management page where you can make any further changes that you want.

To edit several categories select the category type that you want to edit from the drop down list of category types at the top of the page. AutoGallery Pro will load all of the categories of that type. If there are categories that you do not want to edit, remove them from the Category Names list. Once you have made the changes you want, press the Add/Update Categories button. You will be returned to the category management page where you can make any further changes that you want.

Note that it is not possible to change the name of a category. If you do change the name in the Category Names field, a new category with that name will be created. If you want to change a category name, you first need to create the new category, move all of the galleries from the old category into the new category using the Display Galleries interface, and then delete the old category.

Deleting

Categories can be deleted one at a time or several at a time. To delete a single category, select it from the drop down list of categories at the top of the page. AutoGallery Pro will load all of that category's options in the form fields, and you can then make the changes you want. Press the Delete Galleries button to delete the category. You will be returned to the category management page where you can make any further changes that you want.

To delete several categories select the category type that you want to delete from the drop down list of category types at the top of the page. AutoGallery Pro will load all of the categories of that type. If there are categories that you do not want to delete, remove them from the Category Names list. Press the Delete Galleries button to delete the categories. You will be returned to the category management page where you can make any further changes that you want.

Note that deleting a category will also delete all of the galleries in that category. If you do not want to delete all of the galleries in the category you are deleting, you will first need to move them into a category that you will not be deleting. This can be done through the Display Galleries interface.
