Creating and Managing Ranking Pages

With AutoRank Pro is is possible to create many ranking pages, and you can add or remove ranking pages at any time. You can limit your ranking pages to a specific category, or have them rank sites in all categories. You are also not limited as to what ranks can be displayed on a specific page. If you want to create ten pages that all show the top 15 sites you can do that.

Adding a Ranking Page

To add a new ranking page locate and click on the Manage Pages link in the Ranking Pages section of the control panel menu. AutoRank Pro will load a page where you will be able to see and edit your existing pages (if any) and add new pages. You should see a box labeled 'Add Pages' and this is where you can add a new ranking page. Through this interface you can add a single page or multiple pages at once.

Once you have added a page you will need to setup it's template to control how many and what ranks are displayed on the page and to setup your customized page layout. Each new page that is created will use the default template included with the software until you modify it.

To add a single page, fill in the Filename field with the name you want to use for the ranking page. Leave the Subpages option set to zero and then select the category for this new page. If you select Mixed, this page will show sites from all categories. If you select a specific category, only sites from that category will be displayed. Once you have those fields filled in, click on the Add Page button. AutoRank Pro will return you to the same page and you should now see the new page listed in the drop down selection field in the box labeled 'Existing Pages'. From here you can use the Edit Templates interface to adjust the HTML for the newly created page.

To add multiple pages you will follow basically the same procedure, except that you will need to select a value other than 0 for the Subpages option. The Subpages option tells AutoRank Pro how many additional pages to create with this same filename format. If you select 1 for the Subpages option, AutoRank Pro will create two new pages, one with the filename you specified and an additional one with a number before the file extension to indicate that it is a subpage. For example, if you enter a filename of toplist.html and set the Subpages option to 2 the following ranking pages will be created: As you can see this created the file you specified and 2 subpages. There is really nothing special about a subpage other than the fact that it was automatically numbered by AutoRank Pro. You are not restricted to any specific ranks on your subpages, it is just a generic name that we use for numbered pages based on the original filename.

What if you already have toplist.html, toplist2.html, toplist3.html and you want to add toplist4.html, toplist5.html, and toplist6.html? You can do this by entering toplist4.html in the filename field and select 2 subpages. AutoRank Pro will know to start the numbering of the subpages based on the number you use in your filename.

Automatic Category Page Creation

If you have specified categories for AutoRank Pro you will have the option to automatically generate category ranking pages when you visit the Manage Pages interface. You will find a box labeled 'Automatic Category Page Creation' where you can enter the file extension and number of subpages and the software will automatically create well named category pages for you. This is also the method you should use if you have the 'Forward surfers to the category ranking page of the site they came from?' option enabled, as the software will only be able to forward to category pages that are named properly.

Now for an example. Say you have two categories, Programming and Computers, and you have selected a file extension of html and set the Subpages value to 2. When you run the automatic category page creation function, the following pages will be created: As you can see, each category has three pages; the main page and two subpages. AutoRank Pro automatically decides on a well formed name to use for your category pages. It does this by first removing any characters which are not letters or numbers. It will then change all letters to lower case and finally tack on the file extension. Here are some examples of how category names will be changed into ranking page names assuming that the file extension is html: Important Notes About Category Page Naming

If you have the 'Forward surfers to the category ranking page of the site they came from?' option checked in the Edit Options interface you must name your category pages as is outlined in the Automatic Category Page Creation section. If you do not name them this way, that feature will not work. We highly recommend that you use the Automatic Category Page Creation feature when using that option to make sure your pages are named correctly. The same thing applies for the ##Category_Page## template value on the ranking pages. This template value will only work correctly if the category pages have been named as described above.

Editing A Page

If you want to change the filename or category of an existing page you can do that through the Manage Pages interface. At the top of the page from the box labeled 'Existing Pages' select the page that you want to edit and press the Edit button. A small window will pop up where you can edit the filename and the category. Once you have made the changes you want, press the Update Page button.

Once you are done editing a page you should run the Rebuild Ranking Pages function to update the existing page or create the new page if you changed the filename.

Deleting A Page

If you want to delete an existing page you can do that through the Manage Pages interface. At the top of the page from the box labeled 'Existing Pages' select the page that you want to delete and press the Delete button. A small window will pop up asking you to confirm the deletion. If you click Ok the page will be deleted and you will be returned to the Manage Pages interface. When you delete a page it's template will be deleted but the actual ranking page will not be affected. If you want to keep the template, be sure to make a copy of it before you delete the page.
