Hit Weights

Introduction

With AutoRank PHP it is possible to manipulate the incoming and outgoing hit counts for each individual account. The hit weighting system allows you to assign a hit weight for both incoming and outgoing hits for each account that will affect the real number of hits they have sent. For example, if you are listing some of your own sites in the ranking list and you want them to have an advantage, assign a higher in hit weight to them. This will inflate their actual hit counts and cause them to be ranked higher in your list.

Setting An Account's Weights

To set the hit weights for an account use the Display Members interface to locate the account you want to edit. Click on the [Edit] link and a window will appear where you can edit the account information. There will be two fields, one labeled 'In Hit Weight' and one labeled 'Out Hit Weight'. These are pretty much self-explanatory. The in hit weight will affect the incoming hit count and the out hit weight will affect the outgoing hit count. Both of these values default to 1.000 for newly created accounts.

If you change the hit weight to a value greater than 1, the hit counts that are displayed and used to sort the member will be larger than the real hit counts. If you change the hit weigh to a value less than 1, the hit counts that are displayed and used to sort the member will be less than the real hit counts. You can use any number you want for the hit weight, however we recommend against using negative numbers as that will produce unrealistic results.

Template Values Affected by Weights

When you display member information on your ranking page or when a member views their stats through the accounts.php script, you want to make sure they are always seeing the weighted hit counts. The template values available to you make sure that you will display the weighted hit counts instead of the real hit counts. The following template values will show weighted values:

##Weighted_In##
##Weighted_Out##
##Weighted_Total_In##
##Weighted_Total_Out##
##Weighted_In_Per_Day##
##Weighted_In_Per_Week##
##Weighted_In_Per_Month##
##Weighted_Out_Per_Day##
##Weighted_Out_Per_Week##
##Weighted_Out_Per_Month##

What Weights Don't Do

Hit weights will not affect the number of hits that are sent to a member site and they will not affect the number of hits you actually receive from a member site. The only thing they do is to inflate or deflate the real hit counts for a member account. This can be used to boost or lower an account's ranking, but will not change anything else.
